Not the day I had planned...

Today is one of my last full days off of work until all of our birthday/Christmas festivities begin. So as I'm sure you could imagine the list of things I wanted to accomplish in this 24 hour period was quite large.

Number 1 on my list was to get the girls dressed up and have their pictur
es taken with Santa. I went to bed last night thinking about how cute these pictures would be. Rylan (who already met Santa this year and wasn't afraid) would be sitting on his lap nicely with her cheesy "cheese" face. Tatum was a wild card. I figured Tatum would either be her happy-go-lucky self or she would be that screaming child trying to escape. Either way, it would be cute and there would be a story to go along with freak out shot if that should happen.

So, Rylan went to pre-school this morning while Tatum and I went ov
er today's game plan. I packed Rylan's dress and shoes but had to pick up a pair of tights. Tatum got dressed without incident and we headed out. We went to Loblaws for tights for Rylan because I knew for sure that Joe Fresh had what I wanted. Joe Fresh did not disappoint! I had to buy size 3-5 years. The other option was 1-3, but she's turning 3 next week! How is it possible that my child is into the next tight size so soon?! Anyway, I got over it and off to Masonville we went.

The parking lot at Masonville was a cluster F! After fighting my way into a spot, I went to put Tatum in the stroller, and to my surprise, no stroller! I hate when thi
s happens. So I carried Tatum and my diaper bag full of bricks across the parking lot and through the mall to Santa. There we waited for Rylan and Tony. Tatum isn't much into sitting these days so I chased her around, and around, and around, carrying my diaper bag, her coat and Rylan's dress. I gave her some juice to try to get her to stay still, which she promptly dumped all over her Christmas dress and the floor. I should have seen it coming.

Finally, after what felt like forever, Tony and Rylan arrived. Rylan was miserable and wasn't the least bit interested in changing into her dress and tights I went out of my way to get. Fantastic.
Rylan also decided that she didn't want to see Santa at all. Frustrated, I grabbed Tatum and took her up to meet Santa. Tatum had been running up to where he was sitting and back a million times over while we waited for Rylan, so I thought for sure
we were in the clear for a good Santa photo. Wrong. Tatum freaked! I put her on his lap and ran. Before I could turn around to try to distract her, she had wiggled free and was running after me!
After a few more attempts, I gave up. No Santa pictures this year. I'm not impressed.

Since we were already in the mall and definitely in the Christmas spirit (not!) we decided to move onto task # 2. Choosing the girls' Hallmark ornament for the tree. There wasn't a huge selection but Rylan managed to snag the display model 2010 Christmas Barbie ornament and she also helped Tatum pick out a puppy. At least we accomplished something today!Barbie and puppy are safely on the tree and once the girls go down for a nap, I will be cleaning out my diaper bag. It's a tad heavy - weighing in at 16lbs.
I'm kind of nervous about what I will find...And guess who wanted to wear her dress when we got home?!
